Acne are unsightly and distressful, as many acne-prone people would complain. They are tiny little sores which appear usually in the face but could cause so much exasperation especially when it leaves marks. The problem with acne is that there are many available anti-acne treatments in the market which promise to minimize if not stop breakouts and yet they do not work as they claimed. For many acne-prone individuals it can be a challenge to try one product after another, not to mention the cost that experimenting with different products entail.

However, a treatment that is associated and claimed by many as a good pimple-buster is Salicylic Acid Peel. Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid and is contained in many over-the-counter drugs. It is mostly found in beauty products such as lotions, creams, cleansers, toners and medicated treatment pads.

Its Beneficial Effects.  Salicylic Acid acts as an exfoliant which peels the skin of unwanted dead cells. For acne prone skin, it acts to correct the process by which dead cells are sloughed away. It facilitates the process of desquamation wherein new cells that are formed at the deepest layer of the epidermis would push their way to the surface of the cells where they become dead cells and are then shed off. Salicylic Acid Peelresults after the acid penetrates the follicle and clears the pores of cellular debris that is why there is less blockage in the pores and less breakouts in the skin.

Its Use. The strength of this acid in many products range between .5% to 2% in strength. It is advised to apply product containing this substance only once a day. As much as possible, try to use only one type of product, such as salicylic acid lotion or cream but do not combine their usage as many salicylic products can do much harm than good to the skin. Too much of this substance may lead to excessive drying of the skin and pimples would not respond either. The best way to effect Salicylic Acid Peel is to apply the topical product over the entire affected area, otherwise it would not be that effective if you put it only to a particular spot. It is best that one strictly follows what is written in the literature that comes with the product.

Its Potential Side Effects. Some adverse effects of Salicylic Acid especially if applied in big amount are burning sensation, skin irritation and burning. When this occurs, you may modify application from daily to every other day. If irritations in the skin persist, you may stop it altogether and consult a doctor.

Reminders. This product is best used with a sun protection cream or spray. In order to minimize its effects such as peeling and drying, you may also apply an oil-free moisturizer. Applying other anti-acne products such as retinoids and benzoyl peroxide must be exercised with care as it may lead to further drying of skin and irritation. With great attention and care, Salicylic Acid Peel may just be the treatment that you have long been looking for.
